EXCITING DAYS AHEAD

Posted on: December 30th, 2013 by Clifford F. Lynch

As 2013 draws to a close, it is difficult to imagine a more hectic year in the supply chain. A slowly recovering economy, an unemployment rate that is still too high, government inaction on the important things, and too much action on others have added stress to the already difficult task of supply chain management. Most of us are being asked to do more with less; but shortage of resources often sparks innovation and there are still a number of opportunities to improve service and reduce costs.
As we move into 2014, the field should be even more challenging and exciting. Amazon, I believe will continue to put pressure on all of us to improve out delivery techniques. There are a number of transportation issues that will not go away; and hopefully, Congress will step up to the plate and take a good, solid swing at our infrastructure problems when MAP-21 expires in October. But, especially at this time of year it is important to remember that there is life outside the supply chain; so take some time to appreciate family, friends and the blessings we have. Then, as the New Year greets us, put on your thinking cap and find creative and more efficient ways to meet your objectives – and oh yes, be careful and don’t get hit in the head by a malfunctioning delivery drone.
For all our readers, we wish you the happiest of holiday seasons, and a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.
